Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors on November 1st, 2010
- Elliotte Friedman of CBC Sports: Some people in the Calgary Flames organization want Jarome Iginla to be traded. Friedman was told in the summer that “Iginla will not agree to a trade unless the Flames make it public that any move is the team’s choice, not his.” Mark Giordano had a 3-way contract six years ago, one for each of the NHL, AHL, and ECHL.
- Will DePaoli via twitter: Jordan Staal is seeing a doctor after suffering an upper-body injury. It appeared to be his hand according to DePaoli. Bob McKenzie via twitter: (before he suffered new injury) If Jordan Staal’s practices go well the next 2 days could determine if he plays on Wednesday or Friday.
- Will DePaoli via twitter: Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang are both missing from practice today.
- Kevin Allen via twitter: Going on waivers today are Jon Sim (NYI), Jeff DesLauriers (Ed) and Mike Moore (SJ).
- Allen Panzeri via twitter: Pascal Leclaire could be the backup for the Senators tomorrow night against the Leafs, survived the entire practice today. Filip Kuba also lasted entire practice, could be back on Thursday.
- Ben Wright via twitter: Bryan Little (concussion) is still awaiting his test results and isn’t at practice. Freddy Meyer also didn’t practice.
- Eric Stephens via twitter: It’s looking like Cam Fowler will be in the lineup on Wednesday, the Anaheim Ducks should decide this week if he’ll remain with the club or be sent back to Junior.
- Andrew Gross via twitter: Marian Gaborik says that his shoulder still isn’t pain free, took a couple wrist shots, no slap shots. Darren Dreger via twitter: Gaborik skated on his own today for the first time since his shoulder injury, still weeks away.
- Andrew Gross via twitter: Vinny Prospal isn’t doing any leg exercises, doing hand-bike exercises. Chris Drury doing off-ice exercises.
- Jonas Siegel via twitter: The Toronto Maple Leafs have sent Mike Zigomanis to the Toronto Marlies.
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: Zack Kassian is to sign an entry level deal with the Buffalo Sabres today.
Rangers lose Gaborik and Drury … Ballard leaves Canucks game … Souray makes AHL debut … Someone wearing #66
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Injuries, NHL News on October 16th, 2010
- Jesse Spector NY Daily News: The New York Rangers lost Marian Gaborik last night for 2-3 weeks with a separated shoulder after taking a hit from Colby Armstrong. Chris Drury was also injured last night in his first game back after a broken index finger as he broke the same finger, but in a different spot, he’ll be out 6 weeks. Vinny Prospal will have knee surgery on Tuesday, and will be out indefinitely. Erik Christensen is expected to be back in the lineup on Monday after sitting out last night’s game.
- Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: Vancouver Canucks defenseman Keith Ballard left last night’s game after taking a hit in the first, he may have hurt his shoulder or possibly a concussion.
- Sheldon Souray made his AHL debut last night in a 7-1 Hershey Bears victory, recording 1 assist and was a +3 with 2 PIMs.
- Erik Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail: Calgary Flames rookie TJ Brodie will be wearing the number 66 this season. That doesn’t seem right to me, it’s one of those rare numbers that shouldn’t be worn by just anyone. Duncan Keith averaged just over 32 minutes of ice time through the first 4 games.
- Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: The Atlanta Thrashers have waived 2004, 1oth overall draft pick, Boris Valabik. Thrashers fans may not want to see some of the other players they passed over to take Valabik, some guy named Mike Green, Travis Zajac, Andrej Meszaros (though many other teams passed on those guys as well).
Rangers still interested in Souray? Pens looking for Dman? Some Devils demoted could be recalled by Friday
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on October 5th, 2010
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The New York Rangers currently have 5 right-handed defensemen on the roster, and may be on the lookout to add a lefty. Sheldon Souray’s name continues to float around, but even if the Rangers could add some salary to the deal (Steve Eminger, Todd White and Derek Boogaard), Souray’s $5.4 cap hit would hurt next year’s budget when Wade Redden’s deal pops up again. The Rangers will search the waiver wire for left-handed defenseman. Vinny Prospal may require knee surgery that could end his season, possibly his career. More will known after a 2 week rest period. Brandon Dubinsky may move in the #1 center spot between Marian Gaborik and Alex Frolov.
- Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman prospect, Simon Despres, has a good chance of at least starting the year with the club. GM Ray Shero may be looking for a #6 defenseman on the waiver wire. If they add one defenseman, it could mean that one of Ben Lovejoy, Deryk Engelland and Andrew Hutchinson could go on waivers. They are $1.2 million below the cap, and Jordan Staal could be placed on LTIR to create more room.
- Michael Russo via twitter: The Minnesota Wild have put Matt Kassian and Drew Bagnall on waivers. Basically meaning that Casey Wellman and Justin Falk have made the team.
- Tom Gulitti via twitter: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello didn’t rule out recalling any of yesterday’s demoted players (G-Mike McKenna. D- Matt Corrente, C- Jacob Josefson, RW-Mattias Tedenby) by Friday after their cap situation becomes clearer. Lou also added that no decision has been made if Bryce Salvador will be placed on LTIR or not.
- Ben Wright via twitter: Alex Burmistrov, Anthony Stewart and Freddy Meyer all have good chance of making the Atlanta Thrashers final roster.
- Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun: Peter Schaefer is still on tryout with the Vancouver Canucks, and it could be down to him and Jeff Tambellini for the final roster spot. If Schaefer gets the spot, he’ll likely get a 2-way contract worth the minimum $550,000.
- Pierre LeBrun via twitter: Andres Lilja was released by the San Jose Sharks today.
Rangers Still like Souray … Lecavalier staying a good idea … Jackets are Sellers
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on February 16th, 2010
“It’s a gray area, but we’re probably leaning more toward being sellers,” Howson said. “Nothing is final yet.
“It is difficult for all of us, yes, because we didn’t expect to be in this situation. But that’s the reality. You have to make the most of it.”
“Change is sometimes good,” he said. “But I can’t stress enough that it’s not up to me. I’ll have to sit and wait like everybody else.
“If I’m here I’ll continue to do the same things I’ve always done. I’ll work as hard as I can for this organization. If I’m not, hopefully there’s an opportunity for me somewhere else.
“I’m impartial at this point. I don’t know what their plans are. I haven’t had a conversation with anybody who makes those decisions.
“Nothing is for certain in this game, I could be an Oiler when I get back.”
Around the Boards: Filatov moved at the Draft? Leafs losing trade value, Franzen back before Olympics? Hossa day-to-day
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Free Agents, NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors on January 11th, 2010
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: He doesn’t think the Blackhawks should make a run at Kovalchuk. Henrik Sedin could be Hart trophy winner. Tyler Myers in the lead for Calder Trophy. The Blue Jackets could move Nikita Filatov at entry draft for a top 4 defenceman.
- David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail: The mounting loses for the Maple Leafs are doing little to the trade value for their veteran players. Players that might have had some trade value, Stajan, Hagman, and Ponikarovsky have struggled recently. Tomas Kaberle is basically on the only Leaf that could fetch a nice package, a 1st round plus a top prospect or 2, or a top 6 forward, though he most likely won’t be dealt.
- Larry Brooks of the USA Today: Brooks thinks the Rangers should rebuild and trade off UFA’s Vinny Prospal and Christopher Higgens and RFA Dan Girardi.
- Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Johan Franzen thinks he might be able to return to the Red Wings lineup before the Olympics.
- Jimmy Murphy of NESN (via Twitter): The Boston Bruins are looking at what the Oilers and Hurricanes have to trade. They have interest in Ray Whitney.
- Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune: Marian Hossa missed Sunday’s game with a lower-body injury. He’s listed as day-to-day, which coach Quenneville hopeful that he’ll be back Thrusday. Cam Barker has been out the last 4 games, and might be ready for Thursday.
- Kevin Allen of the USA Today:
- The Thrashers could be looking to move both Kovalchuk and Kari Lehtonen, who’s close to returning.
- Tomas Kaberle may give list of teams he might accept a trade to Brian Burke at the trade deadline.
- Teams that could be interested in Teemu Selanne: Pittsburgh, Boston, and Calgary.
- Philadelphia may make a significant move at the deadline.
- The Capitals are looking for a proven defencemen.
